Thai PM Pledges to Solve Social Divisiveness

BANGKOK, Sept 20 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha on Sunday pledged to soon solve existing social disparity and divisiveness, one of the major reasons for him to stage May 22, 2014 coup against the elected government. In his address while presiding over a fair to boost grass-roots economy held at Bangkok outskirts of Muang Thong Thani complex, Gen. Prayut said his determination to assist the grass-roots in improving their livelihood is to make good deeds for the country. “This (government) policy is not meant to canvass votes but to solve problems caused by previous populist programmes implemented by past administrations,” said Gen. Prayut, adding that what his government is doing is to support the people in implementing advantage programmes for the poor community, aimed at improving their quality of life. Gen. Prayut said his government is determined to work for the people by giving importance to develop national economy at every level with link to the government-sponsored special economic zones along the Thai border with neighbouring countries. He said the grass-root assistance programme would “not leave anyone behind” and people would grow together. The prime minister stressed that government agencies should not create conflicts between the government and the people. He said he did not want to become master of the people but rather to serve them. Thailand’s future governments must be equipped with good governance, he added. (TNA)
