Thai PM presides over Children’s Day celebrations

BANGKOK, January 10 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has called on youths to respect their parents, through observing the filial piety virtue and being diligent, while presiding over the opening of Children’s Day 2015 celebrations in Bangkok. In his address at the event, held at Sanam Suapa in the capital, near the Royal Plaza, on Saturday morning, Prime Minister General Prayut also called on youths to start new life by building fine rules and to study Thailand’s proud history so that they become good citizens in the future. The prime minister said his responsibilities to build the country’s future, including developing education for youths, has increased after he was royally appointed to head the incumbent government and the tasks must be done within a limited timeframe, asking for cooperation from all parties. The general atmosphere at Sanam Suapa has been lively, as parents have brought their children to participate in the annual celebrations, organised jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Royal Thai Police. Prizes have also been given away to children, as the prime minister, himself, has presented dolls wearing an army uniform to children attending the fair, which ends at 5pm. The prime minister then presided over Children’s Day 2015 celebrations at nearby Bangkok's Government House, where he has opened his office to allow youths to sit on the prime minister's chair and to have a look on different rooms at the government seat. Activities organised for youths at the Government House also include those promoting relations between Thailand and neighbouring countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in which Thailand is a member state.(TNA)
