Thai PM proclaims 22nd ASEAN Summit successful

BANGKOK, April 27 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has proclaimed the ASEAN Summit 2013, hosted by Brunei Darussalam from April 24-25 a success. Speaking during her weekly TV and radio broadcast Saturday morning, Yingluck said that leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) discussed preparations for the formation of the ASEAN Community (AC) by 2015, covering the 10-nation bloc's connectivity in three pillars, including economics, politics and security and socio-culture. Yingluck revealed that the ASEAN leaders agreed to set up a special office to help supervise the planned implementation of development plans under the AC. According to the Thai prime minister, she also held bilateral talks with Myanmar President General Thein Sein on progress of Myanmar's construction of Dawei deep seaport and both sides agreed that Japanese private firms should be invited to invest in the massive project. The Thai premier noted that the Myanmar government is also ready to offer Thai private business operators to invest in the development of the Dawei Special Economic Zone, with details to be further discussed next month.
