Thai PM to push for people-centred ASEAN Community

BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) - Thailand’s Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha is expected to push for a people-centred ASEAN Community establishment, with clear rules and vision outlined. General Prayut departs for Kuala Lumpur this afternoon to attend the two-day 26th ASEAN Summit, starting Sunday. The Thai prime minister is also expected to propose and push for the special economic zones along the border, with aims to make this region a “food warehouse” and to map out measures in dealing with new forms of threat. Being chairman of ASEAN this year, Malaysia is hosting the 26th ASEAN Summit under the theme ‘Our People, Our Community, Our Vision’. Major issues expected to be raised and discussed at the summit are ASEAN activities, preparations for AEC’s visions after this year, strengthening ASEAN’s mechanisms and creating closer cooperation between the organisation and its peoples.
