Thai PM reiterates on no violence against protestors

BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has stressed that no violence will be used against anti-amnesty bill protestors. The prime minister's confirmation was conveyed on Friday by Police General Pongsapat Pongcharoen, Deputy National Police Chief, who is also Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). Police General Pongsapat was assigned by the Thai premier to visit police forces who have maintained order at demonstration sites of anti-amnesty bill protestors and at government offices in Bangkok, especially the Government House. According to the deputy national police chief, the prime minister suggested the police forces to be vigilant but always remain calm. The prime minister has, herself, performed her duties as usual, amid tight security measures around the Government House. Meanwhile, schools located near anti-amnesty bill demonstration sites have announced a temporary closure on November 8 and 11, while some others have reduced their school hours and cancelled extra curricula activities in the afternoon to allow students to return home early. The schools' authorities said that they have kept monitoring and assessing updates for appropriate decisions. (TNA)
