Thai PM seeks cooperation from all parties on waste management

BANGKOK, July 18 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha calls for cooperation from all parties on proper waste management to reduce the amount of garbage in the country. The prime minister made the call on Tuesday morning while inspecting a public relations campaign on dangerous waste management in communities, jointly launched by the public and private sectors and held at Bangkok's Government House. Under the campaign, five types of waste boxes will be placed at convenient stores, high buildings, urban house estate projects and leading retail stores nationwide to gather for proper disposals five kinds of dangerous wastes, including mobile phone batteries, discarded mobile phones, dry cells, fluorescent tubes and chemical-tainted materials, like spray boxes. The joint public-private campaign followed the fact that there were up to 606,318 tons of the dangerous wastes in Thailand in 2016 alone, a 2.57 per cent year-on-year increase. "Efficient waste management needs cooperation from all parties, covering creating public awareness on reducing the amount of wastes through, for instance, lesser use of plastic bags, and separating different kinds of wastes", suggested the prime minister.
