Thai PM suggests national scientific development

BANGKOK, December 17 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has called for more production of Thai scientists, new technologies and innovations for national development in the long run. Prime Minister General Prayut made the call when he opened the renovated Science Centre for Education in Bangkok on Wednesday, pointing out that Thailand needs to further develop national education, especially in the science subject, to keep pace with fast global development. The prime minister acknowledged that the shortage of Thai scientific human resources obstructs national progress, recommending that modern technologies and innovations be applied to support national development in the long term. The prime minister stressed that agriculture is important for the living of Thai people, but science and scientific works also help develop the country and human resources; so, more science courses should be introduced at local schools. The Thai leader noted, however, that scientific development in the country may take a long time and it includes changes at schools and families. According to the prime minister, Thailand's all areas of development should be, thus, youth-centred and children should be supported to learn what they are interested in. Updated reports said, while the prime minister was returning from the Science Centre for Education in the capital's Sukhumvit area to Government House, a large road-side tree branch fell on a running motorcycle in his motorcade, slightly injuring two of his security guards. The reports indicated the fallen tree branch barely missed the prime ministers' Mercedes-Benz. The Thai leader and his team later arrived at the government seat safely. (TNA)
