Thai PM to support army for national defence

BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that she has instructed the Royal Thai Army to develop its personnel for national defence and she is ready to support, covering their security operations along the Thai border. Yingluck told reporters on Friday that she has, however, learned that the Royal Thai Army has long-term plans for the policy and has also prepared for Thailand's participation in the ASEAN Community (AC). The prime minister also acknowledged that the Royal Thai Army has equipment to rescue victims in disasters and has ordered the Royal Thai Army to integrate its disaster response operations with the Interior Ministry and the Water Management and Flood Prevention Commission for the sake of effective and swift rescue missions. The prime minister made the remarks after visiting the Royal Thai Army headquarters in Bangkok earlier in the day. (TNA)
