Thai PM wants int'l organizations to help solve Rohingya problems

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says he wants international organizations to help solve Rohingya-related problems in Thailand. Prime Minister General Prayut told journalists on Tuesday that international organizations should step in to solve the problems in Thailand because the cross-border trafficking of Rohingya migrants is transnational crime. The prime minister stressed that Thailand is only a transit point and cannot solve the problems of transnational crime alone. The prime minister noted that Thailand will coordinate solutions with neighboring countries, which are the place of origin and destination of Rohingya migrants, and also with international organizations, while internal solutions deal with illegal immigration and the corruption of officials found involving in the alleged cross-border trafficking of Rohingya Muslims. According to the Thai prime minister, crowds of Rohingya people have arrived in Thailand and assistance on the basis of humanitarianism and human rights cannot be denied, but the move must not be a burden of Thailand.
