Thai PM:Government is laying down foundations for national security

BANGKOK, December 25 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says that his interim government is laying down foundations for national security and he hopes the next elected Thai government will follow suit. Prime Minister General Prayut announced the stance while reporting his government's three-month performances to the public at Bangkok's Government House on Thursday. During his statement, the prime minister noted that the work of his interim government has progressed in many areas during the first three months in office, from September to December 2014. The prime minister stated that his government has three duties, including maintaining order together with the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), also headed by him, as well as administering the country, mainly with normal administrative regulations and more integration of work, and conducting national reform and legislation through the National Reform Council (NRC) and the National Legislative Assembly (NLA). According to the prime minister, the three duties must proceed in compliance with the established roadmap and his interim government will work quickly in all the fields. The Thai premier pointed out that the country's next general election will not affect the foundations being laid down by his government because the next national poll is determined by the new Constitution being drafted by the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC). The prime minister also vowed to take tough actions against corrupt officials, calling on cooperation from all parties to ensure the country's sustainable future. Besides, his government is trying to prevent violence and protests by passing important laws and facilitating justice. The prime minister stressed that his government is working for public and national interests, urging government officials to keep working hard, instead of staying inactive only to wait for the next government. The prime minister, meanwhile, sought cooperation from the media to report news and information constructively, insisting that his interim government will continue to limit the enforcement of the martial law.
