Thai PM:Government will not disappoint people concerning amnesty bill

BANGKOK, November 6 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra insists that her government will handle the amnesty bill in accordance with public desires and feelings, but asking protesters to adhere to laws. Yingluck made the confirmation in the Thai East on Wednesday, as a large number of protesters against the controversial draft bill, including members of the main opposition Democrat Party, vowed to proceed with their anti-amnesty bill rallies. Yingluck stressed although her administration commands the majority vote in the House of Representatives, the government does not want to use it against people's feelings, but wanting to see national reconciliation. The prime minister made it clear, however, that her government will not interfere with the work of the legislature, but her administration will accept the Parliament's decision, especially the Senate. The prime minister also urged the political demonstrators to make appropriate expressions for the sake of national peace and economic growth and to comply with laws and refrain from blocking traffic flows even though they have their constitutional rights. The prime minister has performed her duties in Thai East, including Pattaya City in Chon Buri Province, as well as Rayong and Chantaburi Provinces, since Monday afternoon amid anti-amnesty bill protests nationwide. Meanwhile, exiled ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the elder brother of Premier Yingluck, released a statement through his legal adviser, indicating that he is ready to listen to the majority of Thai people, and that the amnesty bill is aimed at ending domestic political strife and giving justice to victims of Thailand's coup d'etat in 2006, denying his opponents' accusation that he had hurriedly pushed for the House's passage of the draft bill last week to only absolve him and to retrieve his assets earlier confiscated to the state.
