Thai police confident in evidence against two suspected bombers

BANGKOK, October 7 (TNA) - Thai police are about to conclude their investigation into two bombing cases in Bangkok in August, as the official probe has been 90 per cent completed with a terror act motive having not yet been ruled out. New National Police Chief Police General Chaktip Chaijinda told journalists on Wednesday that findings from the investigation made Thai police confident that they could prosecute the two detained suspects, Bilal Turk Mohammed aka Adem Karadag and Mieraili Yusufu. Before the conclusion of the investigation, Police General Chaktip said he will meet Acting Assistant National Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Srivara Rangsipramanakul next week to discuss possible motives of the bombings at the Ratchaprasong Intersection and the Sathorn Pier in the Thai capital on August 17 and 18 respectively, including, probably, terrorism. According to the new national police chief, there has had no information to confirm that another bomb suspect, Odd Phayungsak, has escaped through the Thai Far South to neighbouring Malaysia. The newly-appointed national police chief assured that many more arrest warrants would be issued against other suspects, while police have also found that huge sums were transferred from overseas sources to suspects. Meanwhile, police have already identified a foreigner who recently carried a bag to the military court in Bangkok and detectives are checking whether he has connection with any bombing suspect.
