Thai police demands more warrants for Rohingya death case

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) - Thai police will seek warrants for the arrest of up to 4 more suspects in the Rohingha death case in Songkhla province, including a local administrator who led the human trafficking ring, influential people in Padang Besar, and a local politician. Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission said it had received complaints about many other detention camps of Rohingya people. On Monday, authorities searched for more graves of Rohingya people on the Khao Kaew mountain range in Padang Besar sub-district of Songkhla’s Sadao district. The search took place about 200 metres from the first location of graves and detention camps discovered, extending the search until Tuesday. Arrest warrants were issued for eight suspects in the human trafficking case and four of them had been arrested, including a local politician. But up to four other suspects still remain at large. In a separate interview, National Human Rights Commissioner Niran Pitakwatchara said the government had to nail the ring leader to erase the image of Thailand accommodating human trafficking. He also said that the commission had received information including photographs indicating that human traffickers were bringing Rohingya people into the country, so such detention camps could exist in other areas including islands.
