Thai Police: DNA results from village head’s son don't match traces on slain British tourists

BANGKOK, November 1 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Police on Saturday said the DNA test results from the son of a Koh Tao village head released by four Bangkok hospitals did not match DNA traces on evidence obtained at the scene of the September murders of two British tourists, according to a police spokesman. Spokesman Police Lieutenant General Prawut Thavornsiri said DNA results taken from blood tests and mouth swabs of Warot Tuwichian, son of Woraphan, a Ko Tao village headman on the Gulf of Thailand resort island, did not match evidence and DNA of a cigarette stub collected from the island's beach and from the female British victim. The bodies of two British tourists were found on a Koh Tao beach on September 15. Both were murdered, and the female victim was also raped. Police Lieutenant General Prawut said DNA tests was also conducted on Woraphan, to make sure that he and Warot are father and son and the results showed that they are. DNA results from the four state hospitals in Bangkok -- Police General Hospital, Ramathibodi Hospital, Siriraj Hospital and Chulalongkorn Hospital -- now show that the two men are not involved with the murders and so it is unnecessary to forward the DNA results to the British government because it had no doubt about the investigation being conducted by the Thai police, said Police Lieutenant General Prawut. Both men opted to take the DNA tests in a bid to dispel persisting rumours in the social media that the younger man was probably involved in the murders. (TNA)
