Thai police foil arms smuggling to Myanmar

CHIANG RAI, March 27 (TNA) - Thai police here have successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle arms to neighbouring Myanmar in exchange for narcotics and have arrested a suspect. The Thai police said that in their operation on Monday they discovered 10 rocket launchers and grenades believed to be smuggled to armed ethnics in Myanmar in exchange for drugs and apprehended the suspect, a 43-year-old Thai man, who rented a room in Chiang Rai, where the weapons were found. The Chiang Rai police said that they are investigating where the weapons came from and where they were destined and that the suspected man was charged with arms possession and smuggling, which he has denied.
