Thai Police to Give Details on Bombing Incidents

BANGKOK, Sept 27 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Police will disclose in details on Monday concerning networks responsible for bombing incidents in central Bangkok last month while deputy national police chief Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda insisted that two detained suspects are not scapegoats as many have thought. A total of 20 people, mostly foreigners, died and some 130 others wounded in the bomb blast on August 17 at the Erawan shrine at Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong intersection. Another bombing took place the following day at Sathorn pier but no casualties were reported because the explosive fell into the water. Pol Gen. Chakthip said that detained suspect Adem Karadag, also known as Bilal Muhammad, planted the bomb which was hidden inside a cloth bag at the Erawan shrine while another detained suspect Yusufu Mieraili detonated the bomb by a remote control. The bomber who kicked the explosive which fell into the water at Sathorn pier is now in hiding in neighbouring Malaysia, said Pol. Gen. Chakthip. National police chief’s adviser Pol. Gen. Charamporn Suramanee, meanwhile, said a complete picture which could confirm the genuine bomber would complete in the next few days. He said that the picture would compare the identity of the yellow-shirted man accused of planting the bomb at the shrine with Mr. Karadag. Mr. Karadag’s lawyer Choochart Khanpai and an official of Turkish embassy in Thailand are expected to visit Mr. Karadag on Monday to ask him whether he admitted to police he was responsible for planting the deadly explosive.(TNA)
