Thai police nab Korean online gambling gangs

BANGKOK, June 9 (TNA) - Thai police have arrested South Koreans for running online gambling websites at several locations in Bangkok. Royal Thai Police Spokesman Police Lieutenant General Prawut Thavornsiri told a press conference on Tuesday that police of Lumpini Station have arrested three South Korean men, identified as Hui Jun Jeong, Min Jae Kwon and Min Ki Mun, at JJ Mansion on Sukhumvit 11 Road and found with them three notebook computers, seven monitors, five desktop computers, six phone network devices, 10 mobile phones and 21 books of foreign banks. The spokesman said the South Korean suspects were charged with operating as online gambling hosts receiving bets on sports with revolving cash worth 30,000-60,000 baht a day, with most of their clients found to be also South Koreans. Police of the Huay Khwang Station have also apprehended another three South Korean suspects, identified as Park Jegyun, Bin Yunhyeok and Kim Tae Ho, at Daimond Building on Ratchadaphisek Road in Huay Khwang area for the same alleged illicit business and found with them four computers, nine monitors, 11 phones and 16 password authentication devices. All this group's suspects later confessed to the crime. According to the spokesman, Thai police believe there are more Koreans operating online gambling websites in Thailand, as the crime faces harsh punishment in South Korea. The spokesman stated that the Royal Thai Police will ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to put the suspects on the country's criminal blacklist and ban them from re-entering to Thailand in order to prevent them from repeating the crime on the Thai soil.
