Thai police nab Nigerian cocaine smuggler

BANGKOK, April 4 (TNA) - Thailand's anti-narcotics police have arrested a Nigerian man suspected of involving in cocaine smuggling in the Kingdom through the postal system from Argentina. The 24-year-old Nigerian suspect, John Amobi, was caught by the police under the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) in Bangkok on Thursday with 365 grammes of cocaine from Argentina hidden inside a book cover, before it was sent in a parcel to a destination in Lopburi Province in the central Thai region. The anti-narcotics police also confiscated two more cocaine packages from Argentina hidden inside book covers and draped in 4 dresses, bound for Saraburi and Chonburi Provinces in the central and eastern Thai regions. The Nigerian man denied any knowing of the hidden cocaine and claimed he was only hired to receive the packages, adding he has lived in Thailand for more than a year. However, the Thai police did not believe his story, as they found him with numerous fake identity (ID) cards and were reported that the smuggled cocaine would be destined to entertainment and tourist venues in the capital and provincial areas.
