Thai police not yet confirm bomb suspect nabbed in Malaysia

BANGKOK, September 22 (TNA) - National Police Chief Police General Somyot Poompanmuang has not yet confirmed that Malaysian police have arrested a bomb suspect in central Bangkok last month, which killed 20 victims, mostly foreigners, and wounded some 130 others. Police General Somyot told journalists on Tuesday he has not yet been officially informed by Malaysian police that they have apprehended the yellow-shirt man, suspected as the man who laid a bag containing the deadly explosive in front of the Erawan Shrine at Bangkok's Ratchaprasong Intersection shortly before it exploded on August 17. The national police chief noted that he has not sent Thai police to work with their Malaysian counterparts, while local police and security officers have continued hunting those behind the deadly violence. The national police chief stressed if Malaysian police had nabbed the key suspect, an international cooperation would be carried out. Regarding to a recent transfer of 32 senior Thai police officers, including immigration police, to inactive posts, the national police chief revealed that they were accused of human trafficking of ethnic Rohingya migrants who illegally entered Thailand from Bangladesh and Myanmar. According to the national police chief, he should be informed of the result of an investigation on immigration police office accused of receiving bribes and allowing illegal migrants to enter Thailand by September 23.
