Thai police ordered to intensify drug suppression

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has told police in Thailand’s eight Northern provinces to intensify drug suppression, while hinting that officers will deployed in other Southeast Asian nations to improve the suppression. Mr. Chalerm demanded tough drug suppression especially in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son provinces which are known routes of drug smuggling. He ordered police to work with community leaders in narcotic suppression and rehabilitation, saying he hopes that efficient suppression in the North will help reduce drug abuse in the central region, including in Bangkok. Chalerm said he will also ask the Public Health Ministry to control the supplies of flu medication to prevent them from being used in the production of methamphetamine in neighbouring countries.
