Thai political parties don't want easy party dissolution in new Charter

BANGKOK, November 18 (TNA) - Two political parties have proposed to Thailand's Constitution Drafting Committee that political parties not be dissolved easily in the new Constitution. CDC Spokesman General Lertrat Ratanawanit told journalists on Tuesday representatives of the Bhumjaithai and Chartthaipattana Parties told the CDC that a political party should not be disbanded because only one of its executives does wrong and they want to see Thai political parties become strong institutes. The CDC spokesman said both parties also proposed that terms of Thai MPs not to be limited, political parties have good governance, MPs have morality and bureaucracy be strengthened to help tackle corruption. The CDC spokesman stated the Bhumjaithai and the Chartthaipattana Parties also recommended that appointed senators have less power than elected senators, problematic members of independent organizations be subject to impeachment and political parties be allowed to issue populist policies if they are aimed at reducing inequality and are sincerely implemented. The CDC spokesman opined that a referendum on the new Thai Constitution would be unnecessary if the new Charter received a warm welcome from the general public during the drafting process over the next 5-6 months.
