Thai Princess donates 120,000 water purification packets to Nepal

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Thailand's Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali has donated 120,000 water purification packets to quake-ravaged Nepal through the Ministry of Public Health. On behalf of the Thai Princess, Associated Professor Dr. Pichit Suwanprakorn, Vice Chairman of the Princess Pa Foundation, handed the 120,000 water purification packets to Deputy Public Health Minister Dr. Somsak Chunharas at the Ministry of Public Health on Saturday. The powder makes solids settle on the bottom of water containers in five minutes and kills germs in 30 minutes. One packet can make 10 liters of drinking water with the same standard of drinking water in the United States; so, the 120,000 packets can, thus, produce 1.2 million liters of drinking water for people in earthquake-damaged areas in Nepal. According to the deputy public health minister, the water purification packets will be delivered to quake-hit Nepal as soon as possible. The duputy public health minister said people in Nepal are suffering from the shortage of water for consumption because tap water production was damaged by a 7.9-magnitude earthquake in the land-locked Himalayan nation last Saturday (Apr 25), while water from Mount Everest can be used for body cleaning only.
