Thai princess donates necessities to quake-ravaged Nepal

BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has donated five tons of basic necessities to earthquake victims in Nepal. Two military C-130 transport aircrafts on Monday carried 11 tons of basic necessities donated by the princess and the Thai government to the Himalayan country, which was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25. The donation included tents, sleeping bags, winter gear, gas stoves, medicine and necessary consumer products. Meanwhile, authorities at the Ministry of Public Health will hold a meeting on Tuesday to assess situations in Nepal before sending a second team of medical personnel there. It said the first Thai medical team, which arrived in Nepal last week, will return to Thailand on May 8. In a related development, Deputy Defence Minister and Army chief General Udomdej Sitabutr said the Thai army’s soldiers and officers, who have joined the international effort to aid Nepal, have provided medical care to 700-800 Nepalese people and produced 35,000 liters of drinking water there. General Udomdej sadi the Thai team might have to stay in the country for longer than seven days as planned earlier but he promised other teams would be sent to replace them. (TNA)
