Thai Princess to open extended electric train route

BANGKOK, May 3 (TNA) - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over a ceremony to launch the extended electric train route of the Purple Line on August 6, 2016, aimed at easing traffic on the outskirts of Bangkok. General Yodyuth Boonyatikarn, Chairman of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) Board, told journalists of the schedule, saying that the new 23-kilometre elevated electric train will link Bangkok's Tao Poon area with Bang Yai in the capital's neighbouring Nonthaburi Province, in which there are 16 stations and fares are to range from 14 to 42 baht. According to the MRTA board chair, trial runs for the extended route will be held in June and July when commuters can enjoy their free rides. (TNA)
