Thai Princess receives WIPO Award for Creative Excellence

BANGKOK, August 27 (TNA) - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has been conferred the WIPO Award for Creative Excellence by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Visiting WIPO Director-General Francis Gurry was scheduled to bestow the WIPO Award for Creative Excellence to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in Bangkok on Thursday afternoon. New Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn told journalists that Thailand has also received an honour from WIPO to organise an exhibition on Intellectual Property (IP) performances conducted by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at its headquarters in Geneva from October 5-14, 2015. According to the new commerce minister, international visitors to the exhibition include over 1,000 representatives from a total of 188 WIPO member countries participating in the 55th WIPO General Assembly during the period. The new commerce minister noted that during her talks with the visiting WIPO chief earlier in the day, WIPO also pledged to support and help develop Thailand’s IP in various relevant aspects. The commerce minister said that she and the WIPO chief also shared viewed on the importance of IP for boosting competitiveness potential of business operators and national economies. The new commerce minister noted that she informed the WIPO chief that the Thai government has attached importance on conserving native IP and cultures and has, therefore, supported a WIPO subcommittee on native IP, as Thailand has abundant organic raw materials and enriched with cultural heritages.
