Thai Provinces Hold Weddings on Valentine’s Day to Promote Tourism

SURIN, Feb 14 (TNA) - Several weddings took place in several areas in Thailand on St. Valentine’s Day to promote tourism as well. Authorities in the northeastern province of Surin bordering Cambodia on Sunday which marks the St. Valentine’s Day have cooperated with the Tourism authority of Thailand and the Zoological Park Organisation under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King organised a mass wedding on the back of elephants. A total of 34 couples - 27 Thais and seven foreigners – made their dreams come true by marrying on the back of elephants which took place at the Elephant Study Centre at the elephant village in Surin’s Tha Tum district. Amid several species of marine life and witnessed by a group of journalists, several couples tied the knots at the Underwater World Pattaya in the eastern province of Chonburi. The activities were organised to promote tourism in the world-renowned Pattaya resort. Many Thais and foreigners participated in the event. Aimed at promoting tourism in the southern resort province of Phatthalung, officials organised wedding on Valentine’s Day in which 10 couples participated in the activity held at Hat Saen Suk Lampam which links with freshwater lake in Songkhla. The newly married walked along the 100-metre bridge before entering rafts and registered their marriage in the middle of the beautiful lake. A total of 14 couples registered their marriage under a more- than - three -century- old banyan tree in the central Saraburi province, not far from Bangkok. They vowed to have a strong family and live together for a long time. (TNA)
