THAI raises food safety standard for int'l airlines

BANGKOK, September 19 (TNA) - Despite having been certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, has joined forces with the Central Lab Thai to further raise the safety standard of its variety kinds of food produced for more than 60 international airlines to serve passengers. THAI Vice President Flight Lieutenant Montri Chamriang signed a two-year agreement on the cooperation with the Central Lab Thai in Bangkok on September 18. Montri said under the agreement, the Central Lab Thai will help double-check the quality and the safety of food produced by THAI through its laboratory processes to ensure that all the food products are safe from chemical residues. Besides, the Central Lab Thai will share relevant information with THAI and provide training for the national airline's personnel on more sophisticated techniques for safe food production and storage. According to the THAI vice president, the Central Lab Thai is owned by the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP) with its 51 per cent-stake, while the remaining 49 per cent-stake is held by the Thai Ministry of Finance.
