Thai security authorities speeds up drafting peace talks framework

BANGKOK, December 9 (TNA) - The drafting of the framework for Malaysia-brokered peace dialogue with Thailand's southern insurgents is being accelerated along with development of the southern border provinces, according to National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Anusit Kunakorn. The framework focused on talks to create understanding between both sides, he said on Tuesday when asked by reporters about progress of the framework drafting. The NSC secretary-general said the agency was working with dozens of other agencies--including the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center, the Internal Security Operations Command, the Office of the Civil Service Commission, the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board-- to solve violent problems in the far South. "On its part, the NSC will try its best to push for development in there region,” Anusit said. “The government is on the right track in attempting to solve the problems through good care for people and development.” “Today people are very eager to secure their areas and cooperate well with the authorities,” he said. The NSC secretary-general said intensified security measures would continue in the far South in the upcoming New Year festival and the NSC would make its best performance a New Year gift for local people.
