Thai South affected by low pressure mass

THAI FAR SOUTH, November 21 ( TNA) - A low pressure mass is covering the Lower Thai South, causing torrential downpours with floods in some affected areas, as water levels in main local rivers have kept rising. In Narathiwat Province, for instance, the provincial governor has ordered local officials to prepare the evacuation of people, as the Sungai Kolok River is overflowing, while the levels of three other main rivers, namely Bang Nara, Sungai Kolok and Sai Buri, has been rising close to their banks. In nearby Yala Province, people in Lam Mai Sub-district are facing flooding and the locality, as reported by a village head, could become a flood-prone area if there was no effective solution. In Songkhla Province, people in two flooded villages of Chana District have evacuated and moved their belongings to high grounds, as inundation levels are likely to further rise and run-offs are predicted, while authorities have prohibited locals from swimming off the Samila headland due to strong waves. In Krabi Province, high and strong waves have also caused local operators of ferries at the Ao Nang Beach on the Phi Phi Island to have temporarily stayed ashore, while persistent downpours have been raising water levels of many local canals. Meanwhile, floods have remained in several earlier affected Thai areas, including those in the central Ayuthaya Province, the lower northern Pichit Province and the northeastern Buri Rum Province, causing tens of thousands of households remaining in trouble.
