Thai South faces heavy downpours

KRABI, August 3 (TNA) - Several areas in the Thai South are facing heavy downpours, causing floods and landslides, as well as hardships for people in the affected areas. The heavy rainfall for three consecutive days in Krabi Province caused the front wall of the domestic passenger terminal of the Krabi Airport to subside for over 30 metres long on Saturday (Aug 3), prompting airport authorities to have cordoned off the area for urgent repair. In Trang and Satun Provinces, heavy downpours over the past couple of days have overflown local canals and other waterways, inundating over 10 villages and affecting more than 400 households. Satun Governor Nueachai Jiraapirak has issued an urgent statement to all seven districts of the province to closely monitor the updated water situation and ordered the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office to prepare officials and boats to assist locals in case of emergency. Meanwhile, recent floods in several areas in the Thai North and Northeast have been receding. (TNA)
