Thai students grab 17 medals at HOMC 2018

BANGKOK, March 30 (TNA) - Thai students have brought home a total of 17 medals from the Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition (HOMC 2018), held in the Vietnamese capital during March 26-30. Boonrak Yodpetch, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), under the Thai Ministry of Education, told journalists on Friday that the 12 Thai youths, six of whom are secondary-level students and the rest six are high school students, have won one gold medal, five silver medals and six bronze medals from the HOMC 2018. The OBEC chief stated that 11 Thai students won their individual medals at the HOMC 2018, including a gold medal, five silver medals and five bronze medals. Besides, a team of six Thai students, out of the 12 of them, won a bronze medal from the competition and they were each presented a bronze medal representing the winning Thai team for their honor. The OBEC chief noted that the 12 winning Thai students come from schools in Bangkok and provincial areas, including the gold medalist from Triamudomsuksa School, a most renowned school in the Thai capital. "Other winning students from the HOMC 2018 come from Suankularb Wittayalai School and Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School in Bangkok, as well as those from Chon Buri and Rayong Provinces in the Thai East and Surat Thani and Yala Province in the Thai South", the OBEC chief said. According to the OBEC secretary-general, all the 12 Thai winning students returned to Bangkok on early Friday afternoon. The winning Thai students were part of a total of 86 students from eight countries participating in the five-day HOMC 2018, comprising 17 teams. The remaining students come from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Poland, the Philippines and Vietnam. (TNA)
