Thai students offered scholarships from Turkish government

BANGKOK, January 21 (TNA) - The Turkish government has offered non-bonded scholarships to Thai students to study in any field, not limited to only Islamic-related courses, in the Republic of Turkey. Mansode Lambensa, a Ph.D. Thai student at Marmara University in Turkey, told journalists on Tuesday that the Turkish government has offered full scholarships to international students, including those from Thailand, and allows them to select any field of study. The students will obtain full non-bonded scholarships with monthly allowances of 550 Turkish Lira for undergraduate students, 750 Turkish Lira for postgraduate students and 1,050 Turkish Lira for Ph.D. students. (1 Turkish Lira = 15 Thai Baht) There are currently about 500 Thai nationals living in Turkey and the Turkish government is granting scholarships for 200 Thai students in secondary level to doctoral degrees in several fields, including Medicine, Aviation, Islamic Philosophy, Economics, Business Administration and Tourism. On Monday evening, a group of representatives of the Thai Students Association in Turkey, led by Marmara University’s postgraduate students in the faculty of Theology and Islamic Philosophy Abdul-Awal Sidi, paid a courtesy call on Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey Tharit Charungvat, as well as officials from several Thai agencies and on the occasion the Thai officials' visit to Turkey from January 19-22.(TNA)
