Thai students win 12 awards at IEYI 2018 in India

BANGKOK, October 22 (TNA) - Thai students have, again, brought fame to the nation by winning a total of 12 awards from the International Exhibition for Young Inventors 2018 (IEYI 2018), held in New Delhi during October 17-21. Boonrak Yodpetch, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), told journalists that the 15 Thai students, who were divided into nine teams, have won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals, as well as five special awards from the IEYI 2018. "All the nine teams of the smart Thai students from many schools in almost all Thai regions, including those in Bangkok, the South, the East and the North, have brought the reputation to their motherland through their talents", praised the OBEC chief. The OBEC chief cited some awards as examples, including a bio mucilages compound container and a humidity absorbent rice capsule that won the two gold medals, a rambutan peeling device, an ethylene and fungi prevention paper bag to keep and preserve fruits safely for consumption for a certain period of time and a medical detector for patients of emergency cases that won the silver medals. According to the OBEC chief, the five-day IEYI 2018 was organized by the Foundation for Glocal Science Initiatives (FGSI) as a platform for international youths, aged 6-19 years, to show their creative inventions, with the most outstanding ones to receive the awards. The OBEC chief said other eight economies participating in the IEYI 2018 include China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. All the winning Thai students returned home from the Indian capital on early Monday morning through a flight of Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, amid warm welcome by their families, friends, teachers and relevant officials. The winning Thai students come from Suratpittaya School in Surat Thani Province and Klongdan Wittaya School in Songkhla Province in the southern region, Prachin Kanlayanee School in Prachinburi Province in the eastern region, Thairat Wittaya 19 Ban Kham Noi School in Chaiyaphum Province in the northeastern region and Princess Chulabhorn's College group of schools in Phitsanulok Province in the lower northern region and Mukdahan Province in the northeastern region, as well as Samsenwittayalai School and Suksanari School in Bangkok.
