Thai students win two golds at World Choir Game 2016

BANGKOK, July 12 (TNA) - Thai students have, again, brought fame to the nation by winning two gold medals from the World Choir Game 2016 in Russia. On Tuesday morning, the 21 winning Thai students arrived at Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where they were warmly welcomed by a Thai Culture Ministry team, led by Department of Cultural Promotion Director-General Pimrawee Wattanavrangkura, as well as their relatives and friends. The Culture Ministry team congratulated the Thai youths on winning the two golds from the 9th World Choir Game 2016, hosted by Russia's Sochi City during July 6-16. For this year, Thailand had competed in two categories of the contest, including the all female choir group, aged 12-21 years, and the Champions Competition, in which the Thai choir was required to sing four songs in each category, including a Thai song, an English song, a song of a living composer and a song of their choice. The Thai youths had chosen a song royally composed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, named Kham Laew or Twilight. The choir's conductor, Atichai Trakuldej, told journalists that the Thai team had chosen the royally-composed Twilight song, as it is a slow song in which the singers could show off the high notes. Besides, the Thai team's nine-month hard and regular practices had borne the good fruit, even more than what was earlier expected. (TNA)
