Thai transport agencies increase services to serve New Year travelers

BANGKOK, December 28 (TNA) - Airport, railway and bus agencies in Thailand have raised their capacities to meet rising demands and traffic on New Year holidays. For Don Mueang Airport, the airport's general manager, Phet Chan-charoen, told journalists on December 27 that his airport is expected to serve about 90,000 international passengers and 700 flights of both domestic and international routes daily during the ongoing New Year Festival. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) also anticipated that the number of its train passengers should rise from 90,000 to 120,000 a day and SRT has, thus, increased the number of its train trips from 228 to 242 a day from December 29, 2015 onwards and additional trips will be deployed on three main routes from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani Provinces in the Thai Northeast and Sila At of Uttaradit Province in the Lower Thai North. Transport Company Limited estimated as well that the number of inter-provincial bus passengers should go up from 100,000 to 135,000 a day and the state enterprise plans to increase its daily bus trips from 6,500 to 8,100 during the New Year Festival. Transport Company Limited Acting Managing Director Nopparat Karoonyawanich affirmed that his company's buses and those of its concessionaires, as well as all their drivers would be in good conditions to ensure public safety.
