Thai Troops Survey Southern Areas At Risk of Landslides

BANGKOK, December 1 (TNA) - Thai troops from the 4th Army Area Command have helped survey southern areas at risk of landslides, aimed to facilitate urgent relief and mitigation plans in case of any emergency. The Thai military's latest aerial survey discovered several landslide-prone spots in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province's Noppitam District, located near the Luang Mountain in the vicinity of several communities. The military survey team assumed that the discovered spots were damaged by previous landslides in March-April this year and renewed mudslides over the past couple of weeks, caused by heavy downpours, affecting some local rubber plantations. The Thai troops also found widespread damaged areas along the Talumpuk coastline in Nakhon Si Thammarat's Pak Panang District. Major General Charin Amornkaew, Chief of Staff of the 4th Army Area Command, meanwhile, ordered troops of 21 military units under his jurisdiction to further conduct aerial surveys to find out suitable landing sites for military helicopters in southern communities.
