THAI under reform

BANGKOK, January 26 (TNA) - Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, is under reform by cutting its expenses, boosting its revenues and restructuring its organization. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha told journalists on Monday, after chairing a meeting of the State Enterprise Policy Commission at Bangkok's Government House, that solutions for the survival of loss-ridden state enterprises, including THAI, were discussed at the meeting. The prime minister said the meeting agreed that THAI must cut expenses, increase revenues, sell assets and restructure its organization as part of its reform to sustain its business, vowing that his government will never let the national airline to be bankrupt. The prime minister elaborated that THAI needs to change its management, structure and workforce and cut non-performing routes and partially sell assets, including unnecessary planes, through transparent auctions. According to the prime minister, the meeting resolved that 4-5 Thai state enterprises will undergo rehabilitation steps, including organizational restructuring and legal amendments, to sustain their operations.
