Thai villagers to be briefed on Preah Vihear

BANGKOK, October 23 (TNA) -The Thai Army chief ordered officials to brief Thai villagers living along the Thai-Cambodian border to better understand on the ancient Preah Vihear temple case as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is scheduled to issue the ruling on the disputed area near surrounding the temple less than three weeks from now. As the ICJ has set November 11 as the date for delivering the ruling, Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha said he had given the order to Thai forces stationing along the border to brief villagers living in the area to better understand the situation and to become more cautious of the safety. He said however, it is the duty of the government and the foreign affairs ministry to clarify the whole issue to the public. Good relations between the two countries have continued while contacts at every level, especially those stationing at the border, are made on a regular basis. He believed no trouble is foreseen and Thais would respect the court’s verdict. (TNA)
