Thai woman dies from falling off cliff in Bhutan

BANGKOK, January 3 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that a Thai woman has died from falling off a cliff in Bhutan while visiting a highland monastery during her New Year holiday trip. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, made the confirmation on Saturday afternoon, saying that the incident took place on January 2 when the 40-year-old female Thai tourist was taking photos of the mountainous Taktsang Palphug Monastery. According to the spokesman, the body of the Thai woman has been found and brought up from the cliff by local officials. The spokesman stated that the Thai Embassy to Bangladesh, which oversees Thailand's affairs in Bhutan, has then requested the honourary consul in Bhutan to help coordinate to bring the body of the Thai national back home.
