Thai woman nabbed for drug smuggling in Malaysia

BANGKOK, August 7 (TNA) - A Thai woman has been arrested and detained by Malaysian authorities, along with two other foreigners, for smuggling narcotics into the neighbouring country. Malaysia's media reported on Thursday that the 22-year-old Thai woman was arrested at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital, on July 1, after an inspection by local authorities found cocaine weighing 1.67 kilograms, worth 334,000 Malaysian ringgit (about 10 baht=1 ringgit), hidden in a steel frame of her suitcase upon her arrival at KL International Airport from Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on June 30. On the same day, the Malaysian media report said, local authorities also seized 1.28 kilograms of methamphetamine, worth 243,960 ringgit, hidden in seven cans of pea sent from Lagos, Nigeria, at the KL International Airport and they were looking for the drug smuggler. According to the Malaysian customs authorities, they have seized a total of 15.56 kilograms of drugs, worth 2.97 million ringgit, which were smuggled through the KL International Airport from July 1-August 2, 2014, including those seized from the Thai woman, an Nigerian man and an Iranian man. The Malaysian customs officers said the Thai woman and the Nigerian man have already been sent to the Malaysian court, while the Iranian man has been held under remand. (TNA)
