Thai worker killed in South Korea

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) - A Thai worker was killed in a tunnel explosion in South Korea and his body will be soon returned to Thailand. Labour Minister Padermchai Sasomsap confirmed the death of the Thai worker on Wednesday, quoting the Thai minister-counsellor for labour in South Korea as reporting that the explosion happened in a tunnel of an express train project on June 3 and the tunnel caved in, killing two workers, one of them is the 34-year-old Thai worker and the other is a Cambodian worker. Padermchai said that the ill-fated Thai worker from the northern Lampang province was among 19 Thai workers at the construction site and he had worked in South Korea for a year. The labour minister told reporters that the family of the dead would receive a funeral aid of 40,000 baht from a fund for overseas Thai workers, and that he has ordered Thai labour officials in South Korea to take the body back to Thailand for religious ceremonies and to arrange for the compensation from South Korea. According to the Thai labour minister, the 18 other Thai workers at the construction site in South Korea have been safe. (TNA)
