Thai workers returning to Libya

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - Thai workers are returning to Libya, where the political situation is improving after a recent civil war. Winai Luewirojn, Deputy Director-General of the Thai Ministry of Labour's Department of Employment, told reporters on Tuesday that peace has been generally restored in Libya, after the government has put the situation under control. Winai acknowledged that political violence has only remained in Libya's remote areas, including Benghazi City; so, large-scaled construction projects in the African country have resumed and Thai workers are returning to the country to make livings. According to the senior Thai official, applications for the export of Thai workers are to be filed in compliance with regulations, as his Labour Ministry has permitted only the legal export of Thai workers to Libya and employment contracts are to be thoroughly examined before an official approval. The senior official said that his Labour Ministry has also sought permission to open a Thai labour office in Libya to take care of Thai workers there. (TNA)
