Thai youths join natural disaster training

PATHUM THANI, March 25 (TNA) - More than 30 children aged between 3 to 10 have taken a short course on how to tackle natural disaster organised by the state-run National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). The two-day course, began Saturday, was held at the Thailand Science Park in Bangkok’s neighbouring province of Pathum Thani. It was organised with an aim to enable children to survive when they encounter natural disaster such as the flood disaster which devastated Thailand late last year. Children who have joined the course were taught how to differentiate objects which could be eaten and chemical substances whose colours may be similar to each other and how to test whether there is a leak of electric current and to stay away from it. Chutikoon Kojasaenee, a father of a child who has participated in the course, said it would benefit children joining the course as they would be able to confront natural disaster during a difficult period. Another father of a boy joining the course identified as Thawatchai Samranvanich said natural disasters occur frequently nowadays and they have become more severe. It is necessary for children to learn how to protect themselves and also save people’s lives. (TNA)
