Thai youths from US, Europe meet PM

BANGKOK, July 8 (TNA) - Visiting Thai youths from the United States and Europe have met Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who has asked them to inform their friends that his government is laying down foundations for sustainable democracy in Thailand. Meeting a delegation of 37 young Thai people and their 76 parents from the United States, including those from California, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma and Nevada, and another delegation of 21 Thai youths and their parents from Europe at Bangkok's Government House on Wednesday morning, the prime minister said the Thai youths can be special ambassadors to create understanding on the situation in Thailand. The prime minister told them that Thailand was facing long-standing problems and he had to step in to solve them and pave the way for national development. The prime minister noted that his government is working in line with set timeframes and the Provisional Constitution and his administration is subject to democratic principles. The prime minister also told the Thai youths that the royal Thai institution is different from other countries and Section 112 of the Thai Criminal Code has been enforced to protect the royal Thai monarchy from any conflict. There is a program to bring young Thai people in the United States to biennially visit their motherland, where they can learn about history, cultures and tourist attractions. (TNA)
