Thai youths win 18 prizes, 33 medals at PMWC 2015

BANGKOK, July 16 (TNA) - Thai students have, once again, brought fame to their motherland by winning 18 prizes, 33 medals from the Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest 2015 (PMWC 2015), held in Hong Kong from July 12-17. Kamol Rodklai, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), told journalists on Thursday that his office had selected the 16 students with outstanding mathematics skills from primary schools across the country and divided them into four teams to compete at the PMWC 2015. According to the OBEC chief, the Thai youths then won a total of 18 prizes and 33 medals, including four golds, 16 silvers and five bronzes, as well as eight honourable mention awards. The OBEC chief said the total score of the young Thai teams also became the second highest among overall competitors from 15 economies, including Australia, Bulgaria, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States. On the occasion, the OBEC chief revealed, the primary Thai students also performed the traditional Thai boxing, known as "Muay Thai", as a cultural exchange show, which apparently impressed all 160 participting students and teachers. The young Thai winners are scheduled to arrive home in the evening of July 17 via a Thai Airways International (THAI) flight. (TNA)
