Thailand’s anti-drug agency holds auction of assets seized from drug traffickers

BANGKOK, Feb 17 (TNA) - Businessmen, used car traders and the general public early Sunday joined in a market auction of more than 200 items of valuable goods worth more than 40 million baht seized from alleged drug traffickers. A total of 236 goods items including a yacht, cars, motorcycles, gold and ornamental goods confiscated from drug traffickers were on display and proceeds from sales would be given to anti-drug trafficking fund, said Narong Rattananukul, acting secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). The ONCB had from September 11, 2011 to February 14, 2013 apprehended 532,637 alleged drug traffickers and seized about 118.47 million pills of methamphetamine and 2,118 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine pills. The agency had confiscated assets from 6,695 alleged drug traffickers worth 2.34 billion baht. Goods sold for market auction on Sunday were part of the total assets confiscated from the alleged traffickers, the ONCB chief added. (TNA)
