Thailand, Bhutan sign MOU on power cooperation

THIMPHU, September 21 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC) on bilateral cooperation in several relevant areas for the sake of sustainable development of both countries. Under the MOU, inked this week in Bhutan’s Thimphu City by EGAT Governor Soonchai Kumnoonsate and BPC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dasho Bharat Tamang, EGAT and BPC agree to work together in techniques, electricity transmission system maintenance and power transmission business through exchanges of knowledge and personnel, as well as other relevant assistance and support. The MOU, valid from September 2013–September 2015, is the third agreed cooperation between both parties, after their first MOU was signed in October 2007 and their second in November 2009. Located on a mountain range, Bhutan is an ideal landscape for hydro-electric power production and exports, the country's main economic activity and national income. (TNA)
