Thailand burns over 3 tonnes of seized drugs

BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on every June 26, Thailand has destroyed more than 3,000 kilograms of confiscated narcotics, worth over 8.8 billion baht. Thai authorities burned a total of 3,094 kilograms of illicit drugs at a ceremony held for the 43rd time at Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate in Ayutthaya Province in the central region on Thursday. The 8.867-billion baht-worth of narcotics, confiscated from 2,911 cases, were burnt with the environmentally-friendly Pyrolytic Incineration System under 850 degree Celsius. Most of the burnt drugs, or 2,504 kilograms, were methamphetamine, followed by Ice, opium and heroin respectively. Meanwhile, a total of 480,000 drug addicts and users in Thailand were treated and rehabilitated in 2013, while 150,000 people were also treated from January 1–June 15, 2014. (TNA)
