Thailand develops cyber security

BANGKOK, June 11 (TNA) - The Thai government has set up a cyber security committee, the first of its kind in the country, to develop and oversee national cyber security. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra convened the first meeting of the cyber security committee at Bangkok's Government House on Tuesday, in which representatives of agencies concerned participated, including those from the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), the Prime Minister's Office and the Royal Thai Armed Forces, to order their integrated work in order to ease negative cyber impacts on the national economy and society. The cyber security committee is tasked with three main strategies, including the integrated management of national cyber security, the development of national cyber potential to respond to the situation in emergency and the protection of national ICT infrastructure. Members of the committee are in charge of separate areas, namely the ICT Ministry is tasked with implementing strategies on preventing Thailand's economic and social damage from the negative cyber impacts, the Computer Emergency Response Centre and the Ministry of Defence are jointly tasked with overseeing and developing cyber capacities for security agencies in the country and the Royal Thai Police is tasked with strictly enforcing relevant laws.
