Thailand develops therapeutic innovations

BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) - Bangkok-based King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang has introduced three innovative therapeutic aids which can be used with computers, tablets and smart phones. Wasant Tangwongcharoen, a science lecturer at the institute, showed the three innovative instruments to assist patients in controlling their arm muscles, balancing and recovering from knee osteoarthritis at a press conference in Bangkok on Tuesday. Wasant said the three innovations are user-friendly, cost 3,000-10,000 baht each and can replace imported products worth 4-10 million baht apiece. Wasant elaborated the arm-assisting instrument has infrared and a motion sensor which can record the movements of patients for doctors' diagnoses and it encourages patients to raise their arms with a computer game. The balance-assisting tool and the instrument for knee osteoarthritis patients have similar functions, in which a connected computer will give orders for them to move their bodies and legs for the sake of their recovery. Besides, the instruments are also compatible with tablet computers and smart phones, but they will be further developed so that their cost will fall to 2,000 baht apiece and they will be then ready for commercial launches.
